The Agile Manifesto, drafted and signed in 2001, lays out the principles of agile software development. It was signed by 17 representatives for different agile development processes including extreme programming and Scrum. The signatories included gurus like Kent Beck, Ward Cunningham, Martin Fowler and Bob Martin.

The principles in the manifesto include:

  • Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
  • Working software over comprehensive documentation
  • Customer collaboration over contract negotiation, and
  • Responding to change over following a plan.
