The Gang of Four are Erich Gamma, Richard Helm, Ralph Johnson, and John Vlissides. They are the authors of the famous software engineering book: Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software
Interesting is that the term Gang of Four originally describes 4 members of the Communist Party in China, who came to prominence during the Cultural Revolution (1966-76) and were afterwards charged with a series of treasonous crimes. So I thought it is kind of really strange to give those "idols" in the software engineering scene the same name as a group which commited a series of crimes including mass murder?
